Plans for Addressing Wellness at Laurens County Health Care System

Kelly Plaia, Human Resource Manager

from?NC Prevention Partners? Blog for Hospitals

Our focus for 2013 will be primarily fitness. We have a new addition set to open in the coming months. Within this space we have a large classroom that can accommodate on site exercise classes. We hope to offer classes such as Zumba, Yoga, and so forth. On the outside of the new addition we have been promised a walking track. The track should be completed just in time to enjoy the nice Spring weather!

We currently offer discounted / payroll deducted memberships to the local YMCA?s as well as free membership to our on-site Rehabilitation Gym. The gym can be used at anytime by our employees when patients are not using the equipment.

We have just started our first of the Create Your Weight series sponsored by Sodexo. Where as in the past this was offered to only employees, we have opened this up to the public for a minimum fee. So far we have seen great participation and are excited about offering this series of classes twice this year.

The Wellness Committee has invited employees to represent the Laurens County Health Care System at the Cooper River Bridge Run this year. So far, we have about ten individuals signed up and ready to go! We would like to be known throughout the state for our commitment to a healthy lifestyle. If anyone participates in local events that are open to the public we would love to hear about them!

I wish everyone the best of luck this year with their wellness initiatives. Stay on track by making your place of employment a healthier place to work!
