Binghamton, N.Y. (WBNG Binghamton) - If you're in the market for a new counter top, better back yard, or efficient insulation, the Home and Garden Show at the Broome County Arena has it all.
"It's an awesome experience," said Patricia Gay of Binghamton. "I'm looking to forward to making my home more energy efficient."
The show is just in time for that spring remodeling project.
"People like to get their house freshened up from the winter," said Marie Pierson of Vestal Tile, one of the vendors at the show. "Everybody has cabin fever and they like to get their indoor projects going on before it gets too warm to go outside and do projects."
A record number of 140 venders are calling the arena their home this weekend as they showcase their latest innovations in energy efficiency.
"We use a tremendous amounts of power running homes that are outdated," said Christopher Lee of Solar Works. "If you can upgrade you home and increase the efficiency, you're going to spend less over the course of the year in running your home."
While most who choose efficiency upgrades applaud the long term savings, experts admit going green isn't cheap.
"Eco products are a little more costly because they're recycled and repurposed so theres a little bit more in the manufacturing," said Marc Mazzei, the President of Southern Tier Home Builders & Remodelers Association.
A large majority of the vendors at the arena were local vendors.
"We have, in the Greater Binghamton area, so many great companies for everything from cabinetry to flooring," said Pierson. "It helps keep the economy in our area going, especially after the flood."
The event continues on Sunday.
