President General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Dr Rafiu Ladipo has said that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF owes Nigerians a turn around in football this year and in the future by setting up firm plans that will improve football in all ramifications.
"Last year was a bad year for Nigerian football especially the fact that we did not qualify for any major event for this year. This is the worst thing that has ever happened to Nigerian football in the last 25 years.
We do not want a repeat of last year's blunders recorded by our national teams. So, if there are any agenda that will be set by the NFF, it should be solutions that will correct the mistakes we had last year.
He continued: "How can they (NFF) correct these mistakes? By building a formidable new team in all sincerity, just like the one (Stephen) Keshi is building with local players from different clubs in the Nigeria Premier League. These should be made of young, talented and patriotic Nigerian players. They should also develop the game in all ramifications, going out to discover budding talents and nurture them to become part of the senior national team.
"The issue of our facilities should be a major focus by the football house. Our facilities have becomes shadows of themselves. Take for example, the National Stadium in Lagos and the Bauchi Stadium. Even the Abuja stadium, is not at its best. This is because there is no good maintenance and care. I pray it should not be like the National stadium in Lagos. They should also help Nigerian coaches to acquire new techniques of the game by making plans for them to upgrade themselves by going for refresher courses.
" Furthermore, the NFF technical committee should be functional, by having people who are experienced as coaches that will have the ability to discover talents," he said.
On our chances against Rwanda in the Nations Cup qualifier in Kigali, Dr Ladipo said: " The answer to that question, is that, we should ensure we have adequate preparation if we must succeed. My advice for Keshi and his wards is that, they should not underrate Rwanda and think they are a small country.
In football there is no minnows any more, we should learn from the mistakes of the past and start winning all our matches so that at the end of the day, we won't be calculating or struggling to qualify," he warned.
