'The Exorcist' to be remade as a TV miniseries

The 1973 movie "The Exorcist" reportedly will be made into a television series.

It's the first horror movie to get an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, and now, William Peter Blatty's classic exorcism thriller "The Exorcist" will be remade as a 10-episode TV miniseries.

"Martha Marcy May Marlene" director and writer Sean Durkin will write and direct the remake, his rep confirms to TheWrap. The miniseries will focus on the events leading up to a young girl's demonic possession and how her family deals with it. Hint: that's where Father Damien Karras comes in. Vulture first reported the series.?

The original 1973 "Exorcist" movie ? based on Blatty's 1971 novel, which he adapted for the film ??received 10 Oscar nominations, including a Best Actress nod for Ellen Burstyn and Best Supporting Actress nomination for Linda Blair, who played respectively Chris and Regan MacNeil, a mother and her possessed daughter.?

William Friedkin also received a nomination as Best Director, while the movie won Oscars for Best Sound and Blatty's adapted screenplay.?

"The Exorcist" miniseries, which will be produced by Roy Lee ("The Departed"), isn't yet attached to a network, Vulture reports.?
